Position Summary

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the coordinator is a true leader, a catalyst for accelerating the development of teams towards a culture of prevention (interdependence). The Health & Safety Coordinator supports and assists managers and their teams in deploying, maintaining and improving a healthy and safe working environment.

 

US : The position, although based in Brockville, will serve the United States: 1 plant in Pennsylvania and 2 plants in Tennessee.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conveys to others the H&S vision with conviction, passion and "obsession" for H&S.
  • Engages and empowers team members by acting as a role model.
  • Supports, guides and assists plant teams by detecting needs, trends and potential malfunctions; analyzes them to take preventive action.
  • Communicates clearly and respectfully with the teams he advises and develops, setting clear expectations and instructions.
  • Makes the H&S approach accessible and easy to understand, adding a dynamic, "fun" and participative element.
  • Aims to improve and simplify H&S management processes, programs, tools and methods, and integrates them with our other pillars (quality, productivity, our people).
  • Develops professional knowledge and network, seeks out best practices, tools and methods through experience sharing with other industrial organizations (including plant visits), reading, conferences and training courses.
  • Ensures that each safety practice, policy, rule is applicable, understood and respected.
  • Intervenes immediately in the event of any safety related shortcomings or problems observed, provides guidance and direction as needed until the issue has been corrected.
  • Analyzes the overall H&S situation in the field, assesses the progress of the plants, identifies needs, and makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Supports the organization in identifying and correcting hazards and implementing safe work methods.
  • Visits the plants, provides support, acts as a coach to supervisors, employees and facilitators. 
  • Follows up regularly with H&S facilitators.
  • Assists plant leadership in developing and monitoring their annual action plans.
  • Participates in various meetings, health and safety committees, risk analyses, audits, investigations and accident analyses, and ensures at a high level, the effective implementation of the corrective measures decided upon.
  • Participates in the drafting of programs, procedures, instructions and training materials, and coordinates their implementation (training as needed).

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in H&S or related field, or equivalent of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in H&S management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable U.S. laws and regulations (OSHA 30 training), knowledge of ISO 45001 standards preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to coach and influence others.
  • Good communicator, credible and respectful, observes, listens attentively, provides feedback and gives individual and collective recognition.
  • Project management skills (analysis, planning, prioritization, change management).
  • Good computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office suite; comfortable using other programs as needed.
  • Able to work independently and with a team.
  • Demonstrates innovation, creativity, rigor, managerial courage and attention to detail.
  • Be available to travel to assigned plants in US - 1 week/month.
