SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Senior Customs Compliance Specialist, the  Customs Compliance Specialist ensures compliance with regulations regarding classification, customs valuation, rules of origin, free trade agreements, documentation and record keeping, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of efficient processes related to customs compliance within the Leclerc Group
  • Ensure customs compliance of imports and exports with Canadian, US, UK and international customs
  • Classify items (finished products, ingredients, packaging, machinery, etc.) under the proper tariff codes
  • Identify products that can benefit from a free trade agreement and analyze their eligibility
  • Manage claims for overpaid customs duties and drawback
  • Stay informed and be proactive regarding changes in regulations, classifications and global requirements
  • Perform all other related job duties

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Have a college diploma (DEC) in international trade or any other combination of training and experience deemed relevant to the job
  • Possess the CTCS and/or CCS certification or the willingness to obtain the certification (an asset)
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience in a similar position (in food industry would be an asset)
  • Good knowledge of customs compliance, regulations and use of incoterms
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to priorize and work on several files at the same time
  • Excellent analytical skills and professionnal rigor
  • Be autonomous, proactive and involved
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite : Excel, Word, outlook
  • Knowledge of the SAP system (an asset)
  • Knowledge of the French language both orally and in writing (an asset)
